𝐀 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐨:In an effort to be transparent and in response to a recent inquiry, I would like to deliver you FACTUAL information of an incident that occurred at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Academy on June 16th.During this incident, a law enforcement cadet, Douglas McDevitt, fainted. Our on-site personnel called Lee County EMS who assessed him on-scene, deemed him stable, and departed.Due to this behavior, McDevitt was ordered to submit to a drug test, at which time he submitted his resignation, citing “personal reasons”. It is standard LCSO procedure to order drug testing whenever there is an unusual occurrence.Rumors of the incident, which are NOT FACTUAL, claim that McDevitt was having a narcotics related overdose. There is no evidence he was under the influence at the time of the incident.Other false rumors include McDevitt was engaged in criminal activity and said investigation was “called off” by LCSO Command Staff. Under no circumstances would anyone call off ANY investigation into criminal activity. McDevitt is not under investigation and not suspected of any criminal activity while employed with LCSO.Our history shows that we hold our deputies accountable and if they were to commit a crime, they are arrested without hesitation.Lee County Sheriff’s Office employees are held to the highest standards throughout the hiring process and their careers. When an employee brings forth concerns based on character or action, it is our duty to fully investigate the matter. We take the constitution seriously and believe in the presumption of innocence. There is simply no evidence these “rumors” are true.As always, your Lee County Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide the concierge level of service that you deserve. ... See MoreSee Less
