Our Community Response Unit (CRU) was created to solve problems that arise in the community. CRU focuses on establishing and maintaining direct community contacts to foster grassroots partnerships to address and resolve quality of life issues.

The five branches of CRU are Community Outreach, Community Policing, Crime Prevention, Construction Special Investigations and Animal Cruelty Task Force.

Crime Prevention focuses on educating and training our community through programs, partnerships and initiatives. Community Policing establishes community safety teams at providing service and support through interaction and effective communication with homeownersโ€™ associations.

This morning, LCSO Honor Guard honored the life of Corporal Patrick Healey at our Fallen Deputy Memorial located in Lakes Park. On May 7, 2004, Corporal Patrick Healey, a 14-year veteran with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, conducted a traffic stop of a reckless driver on the Mantanzas Pass Bridge.The Corporal and the driver became involved in an altercation and, during the incident, Corporal Healey suffered a heart attack. Thanks to the assistance of License Plate Reader (LPR) technology, deputies and detectives were able to quickly locate the stolen trailer and identify the registered owner of the vehicle it had been attached to. Deputies later tracked down the vehicle, this time without the trailer attached.The driver, identified as ๐™ˆ๐™ž๐™˜๐™๐™–๐™š๐™ก ๐™ƒ๐™ค๐™ฅ๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ง, was questioned and shown photos of his vehicle connected to the stolen trailer. Despite the evidence, Hopper continued to deny any involvement.Hopper was ultimately detained and transported to the Lee County Jail, a place he is no stranger to, with 13 previous arrests in Lee County. His prior arrests include aggravated battery, burglary, fraud, and more. Today, Sheriff Carmine Marceno spoke about water and boating safety ahead of the busy summer season.May is National Water Safety Month, focused on drowning prevention and water safety education.
