SHERIFF CARMINE MARCENO’S JUNE SAFETY & SECURITY TIP: SUMMER & BEACH SAFETY

With school out for the summer, families are spending more time at the beach, on the water, and enjoying outdoor activities.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to keep safety in mind while having fun in the Florida sun.

Water Safety

  • Swim in designated areas and pay attention to beach warning flags.
  • Never swim alone.
  • Closely supervise children near the water at all times.
  • Wear life jackets when boating or participating in water activities.
  • Know how to recognize and respond to rip currents.

Heat Safety

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and protective clothing.
  • Take breaks in the shade whenever possible.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Home & Travel Safety

  • Lock vehicles and remove valuables from sight.
  • Secure doors and windows when leaving home.
  • Keep bicycles, scooters, and recreational equipment locked when not in use.

Keep Kids Safe

  • Know where your children are and who they are with.
  • Establish check-in times and clear expectations.
  • Discuss online safety and responsible social media use.
