Mission

The Mission of SYAL is to unite the experience of Community Leaders with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to provide safe and enriching programs for the youth in Lee County.

Vision

SYAL’s vision is to connect the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in a series of supplemental programs to mentor and support local youth.

Services

The services provided by SYAL are more than just fun and games. These programs are organized, structured, and adult-supervised or coached. This provides excellent opportunities for adolescents to develop and grow to become civic-minded, productive adults and community leaders.

Registration Process

There are different registration requirements for different activities. Call 239-994-7721 or email: teendriverchallenge@sheriffleefl.org for more information.

Youth Activities

Teen Driver Challenge

The Teen Driver Challenge teaches techniques and lifesaving skills used by professional drivers in a “hands-on” driving environment. Students learn vehicle dynamics, safe driving practices and responsible decision making through the classroom and driving exercises.

Basketball

Our focus on youth development provides an environment that will help each child and teen develop relationships, improve self-esteem, and build character. You will find our staff and volunteers focus on teaching the fundamentals and ensuring that everyone plays.

Explorer Program

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program is a career exploration program, for boys and girls ages 14-20, whom express interest in a career with law enforcement. Explorers shadow deputies to receive training, experience, and general knowledge in the several aspects involved with a career in law enforcement.

Do the Right Thing

Since 1997, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has spotlighted students who make good decisions and positive choices through the Do The Right Thing Program. This exceptional program reinforces good behavior, recognizes noble citizenship, and honors community involvement.

“The direction of this country is dependent upon the direction of our youth. In a world filled with many negative messages, the Sheriff’s Youth Activities League (SYAL) devotes time and resources to teaching youngsters the value of community, the importance of both self-respect and respect for others and provides them with a sense of accomplishment. The Sheriff’s Youth Activities League is an investment in tomorrow.”
