SHERIFF CARMINE MARCENO’S DECEMBER SAFETY & SECURITY TIP: JINGLE ALL THE WAY TO SAFETY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

This is a very busy time of year, filled with travel plans, holiday parties and lots of traffic.
Here are some simple safety tips to help keep you and your loved ones in GOOD CHEER!
Holiday Party Safety
Staying safe on the roads is a top priority. If impaired, in any way, arrange for alternate
transportation or have a designated driver.
When using services such as UBER or Lyft, be sure to wait inside and verify your driver’s
name. It’s safest to sit behind the driver and avoid over sharing personal information
Guard your drink. Alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks can easily be tampered with and
should never be left unattended.
When leaving a party or event, use the buddy system. Ask a friend to walk you to your car.
Road Safety
Leave extra time when planning your route. Holiday season often brings additional traffic
and unanticipated delays.
Stress levels can be higher this time of year causing unsafe and inappropriate behaviors
from other drivers. Don’t engage in road rage. If you feel threatened or witness someone
putting others in danger, call 911.
Be aware of pedestrians, shoppers and children home for the holiday vacation.
Home and Travel Safety
Keep travel dates and real-time photos off social media pages.
Let a trusted neighbor know where you will be and when you will be returning.
Give the impression someone is home. Lighting is an important part of crime prevention.
Solor powered lights or timer-set lights can deter criminal activity.
Inspect holiday lights for frayed wires and avoid overloading electrical outlets.
