Part-Time Background Investigator (Civilian)

Starting Salary: $26.24 per hour

Hours: Up to 24 hours per week. Work must generally be conducted Monday–Friday between 8:00am–4:00pm, with flexibility based on investigative needs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • This is an onsite position, no remote work
  • Conducts comprehensive pre-employment and personnel background investigations in support of agency hiring and employment decisions
  • Conducts in-person and telephonic interviews with applicants, references, neighbors, and prior employers
  • Verifies education, employment history, and personal references
  • Conducts civil and criminal background checks, including Clerk of Courts inquiries
  • Performs neighborhood checks and law enforcement record reviews
  • Accesses and utilizes authorized state and national criminal justice databases
  • Reviews personnel and background files from other agencies
  • Prepares clear, thorough, and accurate investigative reports
  • Maintains the confidentiality and integrity of all investigative materials and records
  • Develops and maintains professional working relationships with other law enforcement agencies to support the investigative process
  • Ensures all investigations comply with agency policies, applicable laws, and regulations
  • Refers complex or sensitive matters to the Unit Commander as appropriate
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Flexible schedule availability to meet demands of hiring priorities
  • Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include but are not limited to:
    • Strong investigative skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to conduct thorough and unbiased investigations and interviews
    • Working knowledge of applicable employment laws and ADA requirements
    • Strong written communication skills, particularly in preparing investigative reports
    • Ability to analyze and evaluate sensitive and confidential information
    • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access)
    • FCIC/NCIC Certified
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to observe, communicate, and perform investigative duties effectively
  • Ability to operate a vehicle and enter/exit as needed for investigative tasks
  • Ability to perform general office tasks, including typing and report preparation
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old, or older
  • Must have obtained a high school or GED diploma
  • Must be a US Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or state issued ID card 
  • Must possess a Social Security Card 
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony 
  • Must not have used illegal drugs in the last 12 months 
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
  • Must be able to speak, write and understand the English language 
  • Must have 3 years full time employment with a Criminal Justice Agency
