Salary: $69,550 – $129,500 (Negotiable – based on experience and skills)

Days/Hours: Dayshift on-site with on-call nights and weekends (must have 24/7 availability)

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced Network Engineer to join our Information Technology team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining and advancing the technological infrastructure that supports public safety, emergency services, and daily operations of our law enforcement personnel. The ideal candidate will be proactive, security-conscious, and capable of working in a mission-critical, 24/7 environment. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, monitor, and support LAN/WAN infrastructure including firewalls, switches, routers, and wireless systems. 
  • Maintain and troubleshoot VPN, VoIP, and remote access systems for staff and officers. 
  • Ensure high availability of mission-critical networks, including 911 dispatch, mobile data terminals (MDTs), and in-car video systems. 
  • Configure and maintain network monitoring, logging, and alerting tools. 
  • Collaborate with system administrators, radio technicians, and public safety communications staff on integrated technologies. 
  • Assist in disaster recovery and continuity of operations planning. 
  • Maintain documentation of network configurations, policies, and procedures. 
  • Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, and apply corrective actions. 
  • Maintain compliance with CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) and other law enforcement data security standards. 

Physical Demands:

  • Standard office hours with occasional after-hours support, on-call duties, and emergency response. 
  • Some travel within the county for site support and equipment installation. 
  • May require lifting and transporting equipment up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old, or older
  • Must have obtained a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be a US Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or state-issued ID
  • Must possess a Social Security Card
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony
  • Must not have used illegal drugs in the last 12 months
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
  • Must be able to work various shifts, as well weekends, holidays, and emergency events such as hurricanes
  • Must be able to speak, write, and understand the English language
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or higher certification specializing in datacenter/enterprise. 
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent work experience. 
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with enterprise network infrastructure. 
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and firewalls. 
  • Experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, Sophos, or similar network hardware. 
  • Familiarity with network security best practices and intrusion detection/prevention systems. 
  • Must pass a background investigation and obtain CJIS certification. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience supporting public safety networks, CAD/RMS systems, and radio systems. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server environments. 
  • Familiarity with video surveillance systems and evidence management networks. 
  • Experience with mobile device management (MDM) and endpoint protection.
