Starting Salary: $42,000

Annual Compensation

Role and Responsibilities

The Community Service Officer Program, hereafter referred to as C.S.O., has been established as a means of assisting the citizens of Lee County, while enabling certified patrol deputies to be more visible and proactive in their law enforcement duties. C.S.O. units can investigate past occurred, non-violent crimes and other calls for service not requiring arrest powers or involving any high risk.

Duties include but are not limited to: Vehicle patrol in business parking lots, parking violation enforcement, documenting citizen complaints, crime scene assistance, neighborhood patrol, canvass, accident investigations, crime scene protections, and assisting uniform patrol.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to balance, stoop, twist, and kneel
  • Ability to stand and remain on both feet while in an upright position ranging up to several hours at at time, if necessary
  • Ability to walk; push; pull; lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Dexterity (fingers and extremities)
  • Ability to hear, see and smell
  • Work performed in an external environment and the ability to tolerate inclement weather and possible exposure to hazardous materials and conditions

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old, or older
  • Must have obtained a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be a US Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License or state-issued ID card
  • Must possess a Social Security Card
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony
  • Must not have used illegal drugs in the last 12 months
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
  • Must be able to work various shifts with rotating days off as well as weekends, holidays, and emergency events such as hurricanes
  • Must be able to speak, write and understand the English language
  • Must have knowledge of basic math, filing, and basic computer skills
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must attend and successfully complete CSO Training and participate in meetings/training and/or recruiting

Preferred Skills

  • Bilingual
  • Work experience in the law enforcement field
  • Military experience
  • Degree or college credits in the Criminal Justice field
