Commander Thomas Flynn
Commander Thomas Flynn began his law enforcement career in 2001, attending the Southwest Florida Law Enforcement Academy and being elected president of his class. He commenced his service in corrections serving in classifications, then transferred to road patrol in 4th Precinct in 2005.
Commander Flynn was assigned to the advanced technology support unit as a Detective in 2007. He was then promoted to Detective Sergeant in 2017. Just under one year later, in 2018, he was promoted to Detective Lieutenant.
Following in 2019, Commander Flynn was assigned to road patrol as the Operations Lieutenant in 5th Precinct. A few months later, he was assigned as the Administrative Lieutenant in the same precinct. In 2022, Commander Flynn served as the 3rd Precinct Administrative Lieutenant.
In 2023, Commander Flynn was promoted to Captain as a Countywide Watch Commander. Later that year, he was assigned as the Administrative Watch Commander.
In 2025 Commander Flynn was promoted to Commander and returned to Road Patrol as Commander of 5th Precinct.
Commander Flynn has served with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Field Force, Mobile Command, Community Policing, Safety Committee, Civil Service Board, Aviation TFO and the Honor Guard. Commander Flynn graduated from the 2022 SWFL Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class, and the Florida Sheriffs Association Commanders Academy in 2025.
Commander Flynn served as the Chief Law Enforcement Liaison with the Lee County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) from 2022 to 2025, coordinating all law enforcement efforts with the EOC during natural disaster/emergency response situations.
Awards Commander Flynn has received include the Gallantry Star, five Grand Cordons, two Unit Citations, two Certificates of Recognition, an Honorable Service award, a Good Samaritan award, a Good Conduct award, and a Disaster Response Commendation.
Commander Flynn is a Florida native, and he enjoys spending time with his wife, Caryn, daughter, and two rescue dogs.
