Major Daniel Greenup

A native of Hudson County, New Jersey, Major Daniel Greenup moved to Florida in 2001. He later began his law enforcement career with the Miami-Dade Police Department. After working road patrol in Liberty City, Miami, he relocated to Lee County in 2005 and began road patrol in LCSO’s 1st Precinct.
He became a Detective in that precinct and worked a variety of cases over the next 10 years. In 2015, Greenup was promoted to Sergeant and moved to the 2nd Precinct, working road patrol.
With a background in technology, working in management for an Internet Service Provider prior to becoming a law enforcement officer, in 2017, Major Greenup became a Project Manager at LCSO. He managed the Computer Aided Dispatch System, Records Management System, and Traffic Reporting System.
In the Innovation and Technology Division, Greenup was promoted to Lieutenant and assisted with the creation of the LCSO’s Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC). He later managed the RTIC after it was completed. Greenup returned to Patrol as the Administrative Lieutenant of the 1st Precinct. While on Patrol, Greenup was promoted to Captain.
Greenup assumed Command of the Special Investigations Division, where he managed the RTIC, the Intelligence Unit, and the Advanced Technology Support Unit, which is charged with operating UAV drones and the quadruped drone.
In 2021, Major Greenup helped to create the School Threat Enforcement Team (STET), a key initiative of Sheriff Carmine Marceno’s “Safe Kids, Safe Schools” policy. While managing the Special Investigations Division, Greenup was promoted to Commander and managed the Youth Services Division. In August of 2025, he was promoted to Major of the Patrol Bureau.
