𝚈𝚘𝚞𝚝𝚑 𝚂𝚎𝚛𝚟𝚒𝚌𝚎𝚜 𝙳𝚎𝚙𝚞𝚝𝚢: 𝙹𝚎𝚗𝚊𝚎 𝙷𝚎𝚏𝚕𝚒𝚗
As proof of the power of social media, Jenae Heflin saw Sheriff Carmine Marceno’s TikTok videos and decided the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is where she wanted to continue her law enforcement career.
A native of Ballston Spa, New York, Heflin was working as a School Resource Officer with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office when she determined a change was needed.
“It was the political environment, the way law enforcement is viewed in upstate New York, and things like that that made me want to change,” said Dep. Heflin. “My sister lived in Lee County for a year plus I had a friend in Bonita Springs that I had visited and loved it there. And those TikTok videos with Sheriff Marceno convinced me LCSO would be a great place to work.”
Jenae recalls always wanting a law enforcement career. “On Halloween, I was always a cop,” she says. One physical impediment stood in her way after graduating from Ballston Spa High in 2014, her weight.
“I had gotten up to around 275 pounds through poor eating,” Dep. Heflin explained. “I knew I could not go through the academy like that, so I worked hard for about six months to drop 100 pounds. Then I was able to lose another 40 pounds while at the academy.”
In 2018 she began working road patrol for the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. After about four years on the road, Dep. Heflin became an SRO at her alma mater, Ballston Spa High.
With her dog and possessions loaded into a U-Haul, Jenae drove to Fort Myers in August of 2024 to begin training with LCSO. During the 2024-25 school year she worked in Youth Services as a Rover. The position requires filling in for SROs who are on vacation or otherwise unavailable on certain days.
“It’s spur of the moment and you’re kind of on call to go wherever needed,” she said, “but I loved it. It can be going to any school for a few hours to a week or longer. I think I’ve been to 90 percent of the schools in Lee County and really enjoyed the experience.”
This academic year, Dep. Heflin has a permanent assignment at Estero High.
“I’m looking forward to it,” she said. “Throughout my years as an SRO I’ve always preferred working with the older kids. It’s rewarding to build a relationship with them along with staff. Kids can sometimes have a bad impression of police based on interactions their parents or someone else has had. In the schools we get to know them and reverse that impression.”
While Dep. Heflin enjoys her role with Youth Services, she’s also eyeing the future after working this summer in LCSO’s Intel Unit. Plans include taking the Detective test, then keeping an eye out for openings in STET (School Threat Enforcement Team), Intelligence, or other investigative units.
Away from work, Jenae is an avid pickleball player, enjoys video games like Fortnite, golf and caring for her two dogs: Myla, a Husky, and Nole, an Australian Shepherd.

This group of teens completed both the classroom and practical portions of the program, helping them become more aware and confident on our busy roads. They gained valuable safety tips and defensive driving skills alongside our awesome team of deputies. We’re proud of their commitment to becoming safer, more responsible drivers!

🚨FORT MYERS BEACH SCENE🚨
LCSO detectives are conducting a non-suspicious death investigation near the Matanzas Bridge.
The bridge is OPEN and there is NO threat to the public.
Please use caution if you’re traveling through the area as deputies are on scene.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno joined Lee County School District Superintendent Dr. Denise Carlin, several LCSD leaders, and @BusPatrol_ for a press conference this afternoon reminding the public about school bus safety.
Since the BusPatrol program launched in Lee County, more than 32,000 violations have been identified, each one representing a dangerous decision that put students at risk.

🚨MAN ARRESTED FOR MAKING THREATS🚨
On Tuesday LCSO received an email including threatening language, & links to the below video raising significant concerns.
Detectives quickly reviewed evidence including a google drive account that led investigators straight to the suspect.
37-year-old Adam Jeffery Vaughn made direct threats to burn down a local law firm, harm Sheriff Marceno, another member of LCSO, and the State Attorney.
Vaughn was arrested on 7 felony charges. A significant amount of drugs and paraphernalia was located in his home.
“Thank you, Mr. Vaughn. It’s fools like you who keep us in business. You thought you could hide behind a keyboard but you were wrong.
Turns out the only thing you’re good at is leaving a trail that led you straight to a jail cell,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno is proud to announce the LCSO Narcotics Unit is the recipient of the 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘍𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘢 𝘕𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘖𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘴` 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. Annually, the FNOA presents a conference that is widely attended by local, state, and federal law enforcement entities, where it has developed into the premiere event of the year for network and training.
This year, LCSO’s Narcotics Unit clinched the award yet again, for their tireless efforts working to rid Lee County of poison. Over the last year, the Narcotics Unit made 191 arrests and executed 55 residential search warrants, which resulted in the following being seized:
* $500,000.00 U.S. currency
* Vehicles: 6
* Firearms: 87
* Fentanyl: 4+ kilograms
* Cocaine: 7+ kilograms
* Methamphetamine: 53 lbs
* Ecstasy: 16 kilograms
* Marijuana: 540 lbs
* Heroin: 72 grams
* Misc. Pills: 2500
* Synthetics: 2+ kilograms
Additionally, one of our very own was recognized as this year’s Narcotics Officer of the Year for their dedicated work putting one of Lee County’s most violent and repeat offenders behind bars following a lengthy investigation.
“Awards don’t define our deputies, the results do. But this prestigious recognition confirms what I already know: the men and women of our Narcotics Unit are among the very best in the nation. They relentlessly hunt down drug dealers, dismantle criminal networks, and take the poison off our streets before it reaches another family. This is a testament to their hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to public safety. I am incredibly proud of this elite team and honored to serve alongside them,” stated Sheriff Marceno.

As we prepare for a new school year, our SROs are undergoing specialized training to prepare for active threat situations. This critical training ensures they remain ready to protect the students, teachers, and staff in every Lee County school, reinforcing our commitment to providing a safe learning environment from day one.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno proudly recognizes Golden Paws Crisis Care K-9™ Rollie for reaching an extraordinary milestone—his 600th deployment on July 29, 2026, less than two years after beginning service on August 14, 2024.
Alongside his handler, Shelby Reilly, Rollie has provided comfort and support to victims of trauma, grieving families, students, first responders, hospitalized children, seniors, and individuals experiencing mental health crises throughout Lee County.
“Reaching 600 deployments in under two years reflects both the growing need for Crisis Care K-9 services and Rollie’s exceptional training, dedication, and calming presence,” stated Sheriff Marceno. “His impact has touched countless lives, strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the community while exemplifying LCSO’s commitment to compassion, service, and care.”
Congratulations to Rollie and Shelby on this remarkable achievement and the meaningful difference they continue to make every day.
