Most of us feel safe in our homes; but what happens when you need a worker to come into your home due to renovation or repair? Maybe you’re getting new furniture delivered, repairs to appliances or plumbing, or your carpets cleaned.
Although most employees have good intentions and are there to do their job, we still need to be cautious with our safety, valuables and personal information.
It may feel awkward; however, it is incredibly important to keep an eye on strangers working in your home, It protects your valuables, prevents property damage, and keeps your family safe. It also protects the worker from false accusations and removes any opportunity for someone to make a poor choice.
Preventing Theft
· Protects valuables: People may pocket small items like cash, jewelry, or electronics if left alone.
· Secures private spaces: Unwatched visitors might wander into bedrooms or offices where you keep personal records.
Ensuring Safety
· Reduces risk: You know where people are at all times so no one sneaks up on you.
· Builds boundaries: Your presence shows you are alert and in control of your space.
Monitoring Work
· Verifies tasks: You see if a repair worker actually completes the job they promised to do.
· Answers questions: You can guide workers right away if they run into a problem or need direction.
Avoiding Damage
· Catches accidents: You spot a spill, a broken pipe, or a dropped tool immediately.

· Close/lock doors to rooms where you do not want workers to go.
· Put away cash, jewelry, electronic devices and sensitive personal documents.
· Hide prescription drugs: Lock up all medications, as prescription pill theft is common during home repairs.
· Document the space: Take photos and videos: Record video of the work area and surrounding rooms before the workers arrive.
· Avoid being alone with workers. Have a friend come over while the work is being completed.
