As online shopping and package deliveries increase, residents should be aware of a common scam involving fake delivery notifications. Scammers may send a text message or email claiming that a package could not be delivered, an address needs to be confirmed, or a small fee is required to reschedule a delivery.
These messages may look legitimate and often include a link designed to steal your personal or financial information.
Protect yourself by:
· Don’t click links in unexpected delivery texts or emails.
· Check your package status directly through the retailer or delivery company’s official website or app.
· Never provide your Social Security number, passwords, banking information, or credit card details in response to an unexpected message.
· Be cautious of messages that create a sense of urgency or threaten that your package will be returned.
· If you’re unsure whether a message is legitimate, contact the company directly using a trusted phone number or website.
Remember: A legitimate delivery problem can be verified without clicking a suspicious link. When in doubt, stop, verify, and don’t provide your personal information.
Stay alert and help protect yourself and your neighbors from fraud this October.
Report suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately. If you suspect fraud or have been a victim, report it promptly to help protect yourself and others.
