Major Lebid was born and raised in Lee County, Florida. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology in 2004. Major David Lebid began his law enforcement career in 2004 with the City of Fort Myers Police Department, where he served as a police officer until 2007. In 2007, Major Lebid joined the Lee County Sheriff’s Office as a law enforcement deputy sheriff. Major Lebid went on to earn his Master of Arts Degree in Administration at Barry University in 2016. In 2023, Major Lebid graduated from the 286th Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy.

During his time at the Fort Myers Police Department, Major Lebid was a Field Training Officer, Background Investigator, Juvenile Arrest Monitoring Officer, Special Investigator for Florida’s 20th Judicial Circuit, and Gang Unit Officer.

After starting at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Major Lebid worked as a Gang Unit Detective, Selective Enforcement Team Deputy, Narcotics Detective, Field Force Deputy, Criminal Investigations Division Detective, Violent Crimes Detective, and Homicide Detective. Eventually, Major Lebid was promoted to sergeant and assigned as the Intelligence and Gang Unit Sergeant. Major Lebid went on to serve as a Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit Sergeant and was later promoted to lieutenant. As a lieutenant, Major Lebid worked in the Major Crimes Section and oversaw the Homicide, Cold Case Homicide, and Missing Persons Units. Later, Major Lebid served as a lieutenant within the Patrol Bureau’s 4th Precinct, where he was promoted to Captain in November of 2021. In October of 2024, Major Lebid was promoted to Commander.

Major Lebid served in the Patrol Bureau’s 4th Precinct and was later assigned to the Tactical Support Bureau. During his time in the Tactical Support Bureau, Major Lebid oversaw the Traffic Unit, K9 Unit, Fugitive Warrants, Hostage Negotiators, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Marine Unit, Underwater Recovery, Agriculture Unit, Mounted Patrol, Field Force, Mobile Command Center, Waterborne Strike Team, and served as the Team Commander of the Special Operations Unit.

Major Lebid served as a member of the LCSO Special Operations Unit for 11 years. During his time on SOU, he spent seven years as a sniper and three years on the Waterborne Strike Team. Major Lebid later oversaw the Patrol Bureau’s 1st Precinct for almost three years.

In 2024, Major Lebid completed his Master of Public Safety at the University of Virginia. In 2026, Major Lebid was promoted to Major and currently oversees the Patrol Bureau’s Special Operations Section and Incident Management Team.
