Student Arrested on School Bus
On September 5, 2019, a tip was sent to the Lee County School District Bus Barn in reference to a juvenile who was in possession of a gun on a school bus. Due to the nature of the incident, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was immediately notified and deputies were dispatched to the location of the now-stationary school bus.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the bus pulled over on I-75 by Bonita Beach Road. Deputies quickly made contact with the only occupants on the bus, two students and the bus driver. It was learned that student Jose Amieva (5/24/2002) was in possession of a loaded Glock 23, 40-caliber handgun, which was later confirmed to be stolen out of Lee County. Deputies removed the handgun and placed Amieva in handcuffs.
After conducting a thorough investigation, detectives arrested and charged Amieva with the possession of a weapon on school property, unlawful possession of a firearm under the age of 18, and carrying a concealed weapon.
“Bringing a weapon of any kind on to school property will not be tolerated and you will be arrested.” Stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “The minute we were notified of this situation, deputies and school officials immediately responded and removed the threat. I can assure you that our children, schools, and school buses will be safe in Lee County.”
