Minimum Requirements

To become a member of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, applicants face stringent requirements, testing and examinations, which includes:

Minimum age requirements:

  • 18 for Civilian and Volunteer positions
  • 18 for Certified Corrections Deputy
  • 21 for Certified Law Enforcement Deputy

Minimum employment requirements:

  • Certified Law Enforcement or Certified Corrections deputies must be a U.S. citizen
  • A Civilian must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident of the United States
  • Be a U.S. high school graduate or equivalent
  • Possess a valid Florida driver's license or Florida state issued identification card
  • If previously a member of the Armed Forces of the United States, service and discharge must be honorable or under honorable conditions
  • Possess a valid Social Security card
  • Be able to meet our strict drug standard
  • Be of good moral character, with no felony convictions and no misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury or false statement as outlined in Florida State Statutes

Successfully complete our hiring process to include polygraph, medical and psychological examinations, oral interview and full background investigation.  Certified Deputy positions also require passing a Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) and a Physical Abilities Test (PAT).   Volunteer positions include a polygraph, oral interview and a full background investigation.
