On December 9, 2019, Call Taker Jarna Platt received a 911 call from a male threatening to commit suicide by jumping into traffic at the very busy intersection of US 41 and Corkscrew Road.

Call Taker Platt quickly determined the caller’s threat to be credible and immediately tried to develop a rapport with him until Deputies arrived on scene. Approximately 13 minutes into the call, the man abruptly advised he was hanging up and advised Call Taker Platt she had five minutes to call him back. Call Taker Platt returned the call and remained on the phone with the subject until deputies arrived ultimately preventing the subject from harming himself and potential motorists traveling through the very busy intersection.

Call Taker Jarna Platt’s compassion and superb call handling made a serious and positive impact on the outcome of this incident.
