LCSO -Press Release 2019

On Monday March 11, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a hit and run crash with injuries that occurred at the intersection of Pine Island Road and North Tamiami Trail in North Fort Myers. Due to the nature of the incident, a Traffic Unit deputy responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The investigation revealed that a Harley Davidson Motorcycle was traveling east bound on Pine Island Road when it entered the intersection and struck a vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the intersection. Witnesses stated that the vehicle, an older model gray or silver four-door sedan (Chevrolet or Toyota), was traveling southbound on North Tamiami Trail and was stopped in the intersection on a red light when the motorcycle entered the intersection of a green light and struck the vehicle. After impact, the vehicle fled the scene with its bumper hanging off. One of the witnesses followed the vehicle but was unable to get a tag number due to the bumper hanging off. The witness lost sight of the vehicle after it made a left turn onto a side street from River Road just south of Pondella Road.

The motorcyclist was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with a serious but non-life threatening leg injury. The driver of the vehicle will be found at fault for the crash for stopping and blocking an intersection, but was never located.
