Abuse of Pigs Lands Alva Man in the Pen
October 9, 2018
Just before noon on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for service on Palm Beach Boulevard, in Alva, regarding a property rental dispute. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an unrelated matter as they encountered a number of farm and domestic animals, on the property, that were severely malnourished.
Members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Agricultural Unit were immediately dispatched and found nine emaciated pigs confined in a small enclosure. The animals were without food and the only water available to them was dark green in color.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services arrived to assist and to address domestic animal cruelty discoveries.
Body scoring was conducted on the pigs. Scoring ranks animals on a scale from one to five; one indicating a severely malnourished animal. The animals received scores of ones and twos, had matted skin and were suffering from starvation.
Photographs were taken of the animals and all nine pigs were seized. The animals were transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office impound yard where they will receive veterinary care and food.
As a result of these findings, Dhaniram Sukhdeo (Asian Male DOB 02-23-1960) was arrested and charged with nine counts of Unlawful Confinement/Abandonment of Animals.
“I want to be crystal clear,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “We will not tolerate animal abuse. If you abuse an animal, you will go to jail.”
