Body found in Imperial River identified

On July 5, 2018, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office undertook an extensive search for a missing Bonita Springs woman, Maria Gomez, who left her home on the evening of July 4, 2018 and had yet to return.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office utilized all available resources and manpower as they searched the area for Ms. Gomez.

On Saturday, July 7, 2018, the body of an unidentified female was found in the Imperial River.

The recovered body has been identified as Maria Gomez (H/F  DOB 09/15/1973).  Next of kin has been notified.

This investigation remains active.  All additional information will be provided, when available, in the form of a press release.



July 5, 2018

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is searching the area of Oakland Drive, just north of Bonita Beach Road, in Bonita Springs for a 42-year-old female, Maria Gomez.

Gomez left her residence at approximately 8:00 p.m. on July 4, 2018.  Maria has yet to return home.

Expect law enforcement activity in and around this area in Bonita Springs.
