Clerk fights off suspect in attempted robbery

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who tried to rob a Lehigh Acres convenience store last night, but was run off by a confident clerk. Just after 11 p.m., the suspect entered the 7-Eleven convenience store, located at 1626 Meadow Road in Lehigh. The black male, masked with a green bandana, quickly jumped the counter and attempted to grab the cash register drawer. The on duty clerk grabbed the suspect behind and a scuffle ensued. After a brief struggle, which left the clerk with minor injuries, the would-be robber left the store empty handed. Detectives believe he may have fled in a car that was waiting nearby. The suspect is described as a young black male, approximately 5’8”, who wore a white shirt, khaki pants and a green bandana. Anyone with information on the identity and whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com or by submitting a tip on the P3Tips mobile app.
