Deputies Arrest Lehigh Acres Man Following Four Hour Standoff
An armed man holed up in his home for more than four hours has been arrested without injury.
On January 25, 2018 at approximately 1:54 p.m., deputies responded to 4304 4th Street SW, Lehigh Acres in reference to a disturbance. Deputies were able to speak to a victim that had fled the residence. The victim told detectives his roommate had tried to harm himself by overdosing on drugs and that when he intervened, the suspect punched him and threatened him and his mother with a gun.
The suspect, Hernan Valentin Ortiz, then went back into the home and refused to surrender. He stated he was armed and threatened to shoot any deputies that approached the residence.
Detectives were able to secure a search warrant for the residence and the Lee County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Unit and Hostage Negotiations Team made lengthy attempts via phone and verbal announcements to have Valentin Ortiz come out of the residence.
At approximately 6:43 p.m., the Special Operations Unit was able to take Valentin Ortiz into custody without injury. Valentin Ortiz was uncooperative and refused to speak with detectives.
Inside the residence, deputies recovered a loaded 12 gauge shotgun along with a loaded Glock 40 pistol and three loaded magazines.
Hernan Valentin Ortiz (DOB 1-23-92) is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (without intent to kill); Battery and Resisting an Officer without violence.
