Lee County Sheriff's Office Press Release: Highway Interdiction Continues to Intercept Marijuana-Laden Packages
During the first investigation, detectives located a package that was sent from Las Vegas, Nevada to 844 SE 8th Street, Cape Coral. Detectives established probable cause for the arrest of Glenford Lewis, a black male born on 6/25/1957. A search warrant was executed on the package, which contained 4.5 pounds of marijuana. Lewis was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and smuggling marijuana into the state.
During the second investigation, detectives located a package that was sent from Long Beach, California to 518 NW 19th Place, Cape Coral. Detectives observed a white Nissan SUV arrive at the residence. After a brief visit, the vehicle left the residence and a traffic stop was executed. Two subjects were apprehended: Donavan Mott, a black male born on 3/24/1991 and Alysia Kirk, a white female born on 10/10/1990. Inside the vehicle were vacuum sealed packages and bags of marijuana. Over $9,000 cash was also recovered.
This second investigation didn’t cease after the traffic stop. Detectives returned to Kirk and Mott’s residence and made contact with a third subject: Hubert Burrows, a black male born on 7/15/1997. A strong odor of marijuana emanated from the residence. A search warrant was then executed on the residence. Detectives located 12 pounds of additional marijuana, a money counting machine, scales, a vacuum-sealer, and other items consistent with drug packaging and sales within the residence. The original parcel was also weighed and contained 5 pounds of marijuana. To top it off, a loaded Glock 17 9mm pistol with a high capacity magazine and a loaded 50 round 9mm drum magazine were located in the home.
Kirk was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell, smuggling marijuana into the state, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mott was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell, smuggling marijuana into the state, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon. Burrows was arrested for conspiracy to commit possession of marijuana with intent to sell and smuggling marijuana into the state.
