Major Tom Eberhardt started his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1993. During his tenure Tom has held various positions within the agency to include Transition Team Supervisor, Correctional Emergency Response Team Leader, and Staff Inspector. Most recently, he served as the Commander for the Corrections Services Division, overseeing the Bureau’s budget, contracts, technical and security systems, planning & research as well as serving as public information officer. Tom also currently serves on the Florida Sheriff’s Association Executive Advisory Committee.
As the Ortiz Site Commander, Major Eberhardt oversees the operations of two Correctional Facilities with an inmate housing capacity of 1,552 and a staff of 343 certified and civilian support personnel. He has written several articles for the Corrections Today Magazine and is a certified Florida Model Jail inspector and Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission inspector. Tom has lived in Lee County for 33 years residing in Fort Myers with his wife of 25 years, Lori.
