Death Investigation at Bella Lago on Fort Myers Beach

On Friday, September 7, 2012 at 1:28 p.m. the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a report of a cherry-picker occupied by two males hitting power lines on the 7400 block of Bella Lago Drive, Fort Myers Beach. Deputies responded to the scene and located two deceased males in the cherry-picker.

Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit responded to investigate. Their preliminary investigation has revealed the men were conducting some maintenance to the building when the cherry-picker was lifted into the power lines.  Detectives state this appears to be an accidental electrocution.  The official cause of death will be determined after autopsies are conducted by the Medical Examiner's office.

The two men and the companies they were working for have been identified as follows:

  • Juan Bocanegra (DOB: 6/16/1975) of Fort Myers.  He was working for J. Baller Construction at the time of the incident.
  • Dustin Manning (DOB: 11/21/1981) of Bradenton.  He was workng for Cutting Edge Moldings at the time of the incident.
