Update #2: Man Arrested in Suncoast Homicide

Kortne Jayoun Sturgis (DOB 06/06/90) 2121 SE Collier Avenue, Fort Myers, has been arrested for second degree murder in the death of Steven Riggs.

The investigation revealed that during the night of July 9th and into the morning hours of July 10th the two had been at the residence with a group of people who were drinking alcohol and using narcotics. Sometime during the night the two began to argue and Sturgis pointed a gun at Riggs. A witness at the scene intervened by separating the two. Riggs went outside to leave and Sturgis followed. Sturgis then fired several rounds striking Riggs multiple times. Riggs was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries several days later.

Update 7/19/12: Suncoast Shooting Now a Homicide Investigation

The victim in the July 10th shooting on Breeze Drive has died and this is now a homicide investigation. He has been identified as Steven Riggs (DOB: 09/21/1984) 8190 Breeze Drive, North Fort Myers. There is no further information at this time.

Original Release 7/10/12:

On July 10, 2012 at 5:04 a.m. the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call in reference to a shooting in the Suncoast Estates neighborhood of North Fort Myers.

Deputies responded to 8190 Breeze Drive and located a white male shooting victim in his 20’s on the ground outside of the residence. A witness at the scene told deputies a black male wearing a white shirt and red pants had fled the scene. The shooting victim was transported to the hospital via trauma alert where he remains in critical condition.

Deputies established a perimeter and K-9 and Aviation units responded to the scene but the subject was not located.

Due to the nature of the incident detectives with the Major Crimes Unit responded to investigate. Detectives were told it appears the victim and the suspect knew each other and were in an argument in the driveway just before the shooting occurred.

Detectives are still attempting to identify the black male and would like to speak with anyone with any information on his identity or this shooting.
