Lee County Sheriff's Office K-9 Assigned to Enhance School Safety
Tuesday, July 31, 2012

School safety is a high priority for both Lee County Public Schools and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for providing School Resource Officers and other safety initiatives for the district’s schools across the county.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office introduced its newest members to the Youth Services Unit – Morgan-Kali, a black Labrador Retriever K-9 Officer (Kali for short) and her handler, Sergeant Scott Hoerner on Thursday, July 26th at North Fort Myers High School. Kali is trained to detect weapons and drugs. She will be used to conduct random searches in classrooms, lockers and vehicles in the parking lots.

Kali received a warm welcome by School Board Officials as she demonstrated her skills for them by finding hidden contraband in mere seconds.
