Victim in San Carlos House Fire Identified

On Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 6:01 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to a house fire at 8362 Wren Road, in the San Carlos Park neighborhood of Fort Myers.

When deputies arrived on scene the residence was fully engulfed in flames. Three occupants of the home had escaped the fire and were in the yard. They said there was still one person in the residence.  Attempts to make entry to assist the remaining resident had to be called off when the ceiling collapsed.

Once the fire was extinguished the body of a male was located in the rubble. He has been positively identified as Joseph Frederick Waddell (DOB: 09/27/1980) 24065 Rodas Drive, Bonita Springs.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit of the Lee County Sheriff's Office believe this to be accidental.  The cause of death is still pending. The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
