Three Arrested For Unlicensed Boxing Matches
Monday, April 16, 2012

On April 12, 2012, the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a report of an unauthorized sporting event held at 1407 Hightower Avenue South, Lehigh Acres in November 2011. The allegations were that several juveniles congregated at the above address for the express reason of engaging in a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event promoted by Angela Harrison, (DOB 12/30/1975) Brandon Harrison (DOB 07/27/1984) and his stepson, Gauge Ford, (DOB 11/21/1994).

Detectives with the Bravo District Criminal Investigations Division were able to access Facebook accounts which included video posts capturing juvenile and young adult males engaging in full head contact fighting. Detectives met with the School Resource Officer at East Lee County High School and were able to identify and speak with some of the individuals in the videos.

Interviews with witnesses revealed that two months prior to the scheduled event, Gauge began recruiting fellow students to engage in the MMA style fights at his residence. The participants would wear padded gloves and engage in full contact fighting. On the dates of the scheduled events, participants were paired with an opponent. They engaged in full contact fighting until one of the participants could no longer continue due to their injuries.

As a result of the investigation, it has been established Angela Harrison, Brandon Harrison and Gauge Ford did in fact promote and plan the unlicensed MMA event. They were placed under arrest on Friday, April 13, 2012 for violating FSS 548.008, “Promoting or Sponsoring an Unlicensed Boxing Match,” a third degree felony.
