Lee County Sheriff's Office Press Release: Suspect Arrested in Officer Involved Shooting
Tuesday, May 16, 2017

On April 22, 2017, at approximately 3:33 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service in reference to an unknown suspect having shot into an occupied vehicle on Interstate 75 near mile marker 139. Upon the first Deputy’s arrival, the caller, Nicole Kramer, exited her vehicle and raised a firearm toward the deputy. Kramer refused numerous verbal commands to drop the firearm and began advancing towards the deputy. In response to this life-threatening situation, the deputy fired on Kramer, striking her once. Kramer was given immediate first aid and was transported to the hospital. The deputy was not injured.

A subsequent investigation would reveal that Kramer had attempted suicide numerous times in the past and had placed the phony 911 call with the intention of confronting law enforcement and provoking deadly force. The weapon Kramer used during the incident was discovered to be a black air soft pistol, which had no visible markings to distinguish it from an actual firearm. Also located in Kramer’s vehicle was a handwritten note detailing her plan and apologizing to law enforcement for forcing them to kill her.

On May 16, 2017, Kramer was released from the hospital and transported to the Lee County Jail where she was booked on one count of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
