(Initial press release from March 27, 2014)
The Lee County Sheriff's Office is proud to announce the return of our 18th Annual “Sheriff’s Summer Youth Program”.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Youth Services Section provides the opportunity for students, ages 11 through 13, to participate in a creative and interactive environment, while being rewarded for being among the overwhelming majority who don’t get into trouble with the law. The theme of the program is about “Empowering Youth for Tomorrow”. The goal of the deputy counselors who coordinate the Summer Youth Program is to instill a vision of the future that is bright and hopeful. Those attending learn about nutrition, physical fitness and making healthy choices. In addition to the various athletic activities, they’ll enjoy demonstrations and get a behind-the-scenes look at several special operational units of the Sheriff’s Office such as our helicopter, K-9, S.W.A.T. teams, and bomb squad.
The Sheriff’s Summer Youth Program is FREE of charge, but seats are limited. The initiative consists of ten, four-day sessions, Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 am to 3:00 p.m. Parents, or their designee, are responsible for dropping off and picking up their child on time. The youth are required to wear appropriate comfortable clothing and closed-toed athletic shoes each day. Each child will need to bring a lunch/drink Monday through Wednesday. Lunch will be provided on Thursday.
Tentative Dates and locations for the Summer Youth Program are:
• Varsity Lakes Middle School -- June 2 - June 5
