Stolen Vehicle Suspect gets Busted Robbing Bank

On November 22, 2013 at approximately 12:43 pm, the Lee County Sheriffs Office received a call From Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in reference to assisting in locating a stolen vehicle out of their jurisdiction.

The stolen vehicle was described as gold in color Chrysler equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS).

The GPS placed the vehicle near Home Depot at 11941 Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs.

Deputies from the Delta District and Bonita Springs Community Policing Unit converged on the area and located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Home Depot. Deputies were able to obtain a description of a male who was observed leaving from the area of the vehicle and put out a description to responding units. The suspect was later observed running through the wooded area located between the SunTrust Bank located at 11721 Bonita Beach Road and the adjacent Home Depot parking lot. Deputies were flagged down by bank employees who advised that the white male running just robbed the bank. The suspect was immediately taken into custody.

No injuries were reported during the robbery.

Due to nature of the incident detectives with Robbery Unit assumed the investigation.

During the investigation, detectives discover the suspect entered the bank and wrote a note demanding cash from the teller. The teller complied with the request and suspect exited the bank.

Following an interview with detectives and as a result of evidence gathered during the investigation, Thomas Joseph Stacy (DOB 04/22/1970), 1903 Mark Avenue, Apt. 103, Punta Gorda was arrested and charged with Robbery without a firearm or weapon and Resisting without violence.

Charlotte County Detectives are continuing their investigation into the Grand Theft Auto as well as several other crimes Stacy may have recently committed in their jurisdiction.

Today’s positive result was a culmination of an outstanding team effort between both neighboring agencies and members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
