The Public Information Office has received several requests from media for interviews and comment from Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott on the circumstances facing U.S. House Representative Trey Radel (R-Fla). The sheriff is respectfully declining further interview on the subject today, however, is issuing the following statement:
"The news of Radel's involvement with drugs is disappointing , and I hope he regains control of his life for the sake of a beautiful 2 year old boy and his wife. Beyond that, Southwest Florida expects and deserves better in our Representative.
On a side note, the events of the past 24 hours have again fueled speculation and questions from my constituents and the news media as to any personal political interest in running for congress. As I've made publicly known, I am certainly flattered by such consideration, however, the citizens of Lee County elected me to be their sheriff for a term of four years. I remain committed to fulfilling that responsibility to the end of this term with no other political aspirations except being Lee County Sheriff."
