Lee County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 18
What is the Explorer Program?
The Explorer Program is designed for teens 14 - 21 years of age. Through interaction with law enforcement and other community advisors, the program provides the opportunity for young adults to learn and experience good lawful citizenship.
Our Explorer Post #18 offers young men and women hands-on training by experienced law enforcement personnel which instills responsibility, leadership, teamwork, initiative and self-reliance. The Explorer Post interacts with other youth and adults and community organizations and participates in various law enforcement and community events.
It is our goal to recruit and maintain many active Explorers to help serve our community.
What we do
Our Explorers are given the opportunity to participate in all areas of law enforcement and corrections, including:
- Law Enforcement Explorer Academy
- Corrections Bureau
- The Florida Sheriff's Explorer Association
- State-wide Competitions and Pistol Matches Hosted by the Florida Sheriff's Explorer Association
- Delegate Meetings Around the State
- Yearly Convention and Competition
- Interdepartment Pistol Competition
- Aviation Unit
- Directed Neighborhood Patrols
- Boating Safety and Patrols
- Radio and Computer Use
- Patrol Ride-a-long Program
- Weekly Details
- Community Service Projects
- Community Policing Projects Such As Child Finger-printing, Child Safety Programs and Crime Prevention
How you can get involved
To become an Explorer, as a candidate you must:
- Be at least 14 years of age, but have not yet reached your 21st birthday.
- Achieve and maintain a satisfactory grade or higher if you are enrolled in any type of school (high school, college or any other form of education), throughout your Sheriff Explorer membership and show each report card from school, no matter what grade or level, to the Explorer Advisor.
- Make a conscientious effort to stay out of trouble and have the desire to help others do the same.
- Have your parents' or guardians' approval and cooperation, if you are under the age of 18.
