Air Quality

Laminar air flow:

One-way air flow pushes airborne particulates away from shooters at a rate of 75 feet a minute.

Air filters:

A High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration system removes potentially harmful chemicals and particulates. In addition, a sophisticated control system monitors carbon monoxide levels to ensure high air quality.

Separate air conditioning systems:

The gun cleaning room has its own separate air system, which uses only outside air. It also has exhaust hoods for use with toxic cleaning solvents. A pressure-controlled environment ensures no air from the room reaches other parts of the facility.

Non-toxic bullets:

The Lee County Gun Range uses and sells only non-toxic, lead-free bullets. This ammunition produces little to no smoke.

Tactical Training

Law enforcement tactical training will be greatly enhanced with the 50-meter gun range. A range master will operate a computer-controlled target system, which includes running targets capable of crossing paths or moving at different speeds; turning targets suspended from the ceiling that pivot on edge and require split-second decision making; and portable targets to provide random scenarios. All targets are driven by compressed air and control wires that can be used to stage situational operations.

50-meter Gun Range
  • Reserved for law enforcement tactical training.
  • 22 turning-target positions.
  • Suitable for pistol, shotgun and rifle usage.
  • Computer-controlled tactical target system.
  • Gun cleaning and gunsmithing facilities.

Unique Features

Unique design:

The Lee County Gun Range was designed from the start for exclusive use of non-toxic ammunition.

Multipurpose use:

In addition to shooting lanes, the facility has gun cleaning stations and classrooms. It also houses the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Training Division.

Safety features:

7-inch-thick concrete walls are reinforced with ballistic steel between 1/4- and 3/8-inch thick. Range entrances are offset to ensure stray bullets are contained.

Cost savings:

Lee County realized significant cost savings by building a non-toxic gun range. The use of non-toxic ammunition lowered construction costs by $400,000 and annual recurring costs by more than $200,000.

Collaboration:

The facility is a collaborative effort among Lee County government, the Sheriff's Office and Lee County Mosquito Control District, which generously provided property to build the facility. Mosquito Control will utilize the facility as a hurricane shelter for its helicopters and other equipment.

Hurricane resistant:

The gun range can withstand a Category 4 storm and will be used as an emergency command center.
