What is Crime Stoppers?

Crime Stoppers is a program designed to solve crime with the help of concerned citizens.  This effective program asks that citizens like you fight crime by supplying leads and information which may assist in bringing criminals face to face with justice.  And you may receive a reward of up to $1000!

Who benefits from Crime Stoppers?

You do.  Nationally, Crime Stoppers programs have proven successful in solving thousands of felony crimes and recovering virtually millions of dollars in stolen merchandise.  The success of this project is an effective force toward making your community a safer, more law-abiding place in which to live.  Consequently, not only do you and your family benefit from this program, but so does your entire community.  Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers receives more than 175 tips a month on felony incidents from an area that includes serves Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties.  In 2004 the program received more than 1,700 calls leading to 219 arrests and 478 cleared cases, helped recover more than $73,000 in stolen property and narcotics, and provided eligible callers with $38,600 in rewards.

Who controls Crime Stoppers?

Southwest Florida businessmen and women who, like you, want to take an active part in stopping the increase of crime in their community.  This Board of Directors, which is comprised of private citizens actively guides Crime Stoppers.  The program is administered through a Lee County Sheriff's Deputy assigned full time to the Crime Stoppers office located in the Sheriff's Office Headquarters at 14650 Six Mile Cypress Parkway.

Who Funds Crime Stoppers?

Crime Stoppers does not receive any funding from state or federal sources.  It is a community project totally supported by your donations of money, goods or services.  Donations come from private sources, corporations, clubs, professional associations, retailers, civic and social groups, as well as individuals.

How does Crime Stoppers work?

Each week, the facts about an unsolved felony crime are aired on radio and television, printed in various newspapers and circulated to numerous law enforcement agencies throughout Southwest Florida.  Citizens are asked to call Crime Stoppers if they have any information regarding the crime.  All calls are kept in complete confidence.  Citizens supplying information leading to an arrest or indictment are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

What is Student Crime Stoppers?

In October of 1994, Student Crime Stoppers was established to the civilian Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers with the complete support of the Lee County Superintendent of Schools and the Lee County School Board.  It was created to aid law enforcement in reducing the crime rate in schools, on school grounds, and in the community.  Students using the hotline may remain anonymous and are eligible for up to a $1000 reward.  Student Crime Stoppers now covers public schools in Lee and Charlotte Counties.  In addition to receiving calls on criminal activity, the Hotline also assists students with crisis referral.
