East District Captain Garrison Bio
Captain Todd Garrison began his law enforcement career in June 1992 as a Police Officer for the Town of Kenneth City, Florida. He joined the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in March 1994 as a West District Patrol Deputy.
It didn’t take long before his interpersonal skills were put to use as a Community Policing Deputy for the Harlem Heights Community. During this time period, he also became a Field Training Officer, helping new Deputies in his district learn the ropes of their chosen profession emphasizing officer safety; effective, equal enforcement of the law; agency policy and procedures; community relations; and, much more.
In 1996, he was transferred up the ladder of experience to the Criminal Investigations Division, specifically as a Detective in the Robbery Auto Theft Unit and later the Joint Auto Theft Task Force. A promotion to Sergeant came in the new millennium while still assigned to the task force. Agency reorganization in 2001 added more responsibility as supervisor, now overseeing the Major Crimes Division, Robbery/Homicide Unit. Toward the end of 2003, it was back to the road, as a North District Patrol and Selective Enforcement Team Sergeant.
A new Sheriff and recognition of his expertise in Auto Theft brought him back to the specialty unit in 2005. Later that same year, he was promoted to Lieutenant in the Special Operations Division before once again taking on a patrol role as Assistant Commander in Echo (Central) District from 2007 to 2013.
In March 2013, fresh out of the FBI Academy, he was asked to become Assistant Commander of the Civil Division, where foreclosures, domestic violence injunctions and subpoena service were at record levels. His latest advancement and achievement is promotion to Captain, assuming command of the Bravo (East) District Patrol based in Lehigh Acres. He also retains command of the Hostage Negotiation Team (he has been a member of the team continuously since 1997).
Among his many accomplishments, Captain Garrison has earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Edison State College; a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Hodges University; and is a graduate of the Executive Academy of Government Leadership and Ethics from Florida Gulf Coast University. He also is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy Session 252.
