This position involves responsibility for guarding inmates, in accordance with established policies, regulations and procedures. It involves supervising inmate activities, conducting shakedowns of cell blocks, dispensing food, linens, medications and other items, maintaining logs and records, and monitoring inmates at appointments or visitation. Unusual or difficult situations are referred to supervisors for action or guidance. This posting will close 12/31/09

Minimum Qualifications

  • Age requirements:

    Certified Corrections - 19 y.o.
    Certified Law Enforcement - 21 y.o.
    Civilian Positions - 18 y.o.

  • Certified law enforcement or certified corrections must be a United States citizen.
  • A civilian must be a United States citizen or legal resident of the United States.
  • Be a U.S. high school graduate or equivalent as recognized by the State of Florida Department of Education.
  • Possess a valid Florida driver's license.
  • If previously a member of the Armed Forces of the United States, must have received an honorable discharge.
  • Possess a Social Security card.
  • Be of good moral character; having no felony convictions; no misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury, or false statement, as outlined in the Florida State Statute.
  • Be able to meet our restrictive drug standard.
  • Successfully complete our hiring process to include written testing, polygraph exam, oral interview.

If applying for a certified law enforcement, certified corrections, or Community Service Aide position, you must also:

  • Pass the Florida Basic Abilities Test (F.B.A.T.).
  • Be in good physical condition and successfully pass a physical exam and an agility test.
  • Successfully complete an oral board interview.

Applicants for certified positions must also pass the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (C.J.B.A.T.).

Military or law enforcement experience and/or college degree preferred.
