Application Information
Our employment application process consists of two phases:
Part I is the “pre-screen” process. This process consists of a yes/no
questionnaire and is intended to ensure applicants meet at least the minimum
qualifications for a full application packet. Pre-screen packets must be
physically turned in to the LCSO Human Resource office if you live locally.
However, if you live out of county or out of state, the pre-screen packet can
be mailed. You will be interviewed by a Background Investigator who will review
your pre-screen with you.
Part II of the application process consists of the full application packet and all
testing requirements which will be provided by the Human Resources staff.
Applicants applying for certified (sworn) positions will be required to complete
the Florida Basic Abilities Test (F.B.A.T.) and a physical agility test.
Applicants applying for a non-certified (civilian) position will be required to
complete the Test of Adult Basic Education (T.A.B.E.). All information for these
tests will be included with the full application packet. There are circumstances
where the F.B.A.T. and T.A.B.E. are not required.
All necessary testing should be completed prior to turning in your application. All original documents requested should be included with your completed application (copies will be made and the originals given back to you). The application must be submitted in person to the Human Resources Division of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. An exception is provided for out of state and out of county applicants who can mail back their completed application packets. Instructions for turning in your completed application will be included in the packet. You will be fingerprinted when you submit your application.
After the application is submitted the process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months (or more), depending on various circumstances. The process will include at minimum: a polygraph examination, full background investigation, oral board interview, physical exam, and drug screen. All certified (sworn) positions and some non-certified (civilian) positions will also require a psychological exam. All steps of the process will be scheduled through the Sheriff’s Office Human Resources Division.
Throughout the process applications are routinely given a staff review and applicants that are not selected will be notified in writing.
Should you have any questions concerning any phase of the application process please contact the Human Resources Division at 239-477-1323.
