Corrections Clerk I Janice A. Abdou, assigned to Main Jail Clerical Staff Section, was awarded for Corrections Civilian of the Quarter on Feb 03, 2010.
On December 3, 2009 at around 08:25 am while driving southbound on Buckingham Road, Janice Abdou witnessed a fatal accident between a car and a school bus. Janice immediately called 911 from her cell phone and went over to the car to check on the victims. Having a previous occupation as a medical assistant, Janice checked the victim’s pulses, but the victims were later pronounced dead at the scene. Janice also went to the school bus and checked the drivers’ status and stayed with the bus driver until help arrived.
Janice Abdou has been selected as our Corrections Civilian of the quarter
Deputy Sheriff Erik J. Clark, assigned to Delta District, was awarded for deputy of the quarter on Feb 03, 2010.
On October 20, 2009, Deputy Erik Clark responded to a residence located at 18067 Constitution Circle in reference to a possible drowning involving a child. Upon arrival, Deputy Clark made contact with the victim’s mother who was holding the child in her arms, extremely distraught. The toddler was breathing very shallow and not responsive. Deputy Clark immediately initiated infant CPR by placing the toddler face down on his arm and performed two blows to the back. This action caused the child to expel the remaining water in his lungs and begin to breathe normally and cry. EMS arrived on scene and transported the child with a positive outlook. The prompt and alert actions of Deputy Clark resulted in the saving of a life.

Master Corporal Patricia A Ramsey, assigned to Stockade, was awarded for Corrections Deputy of the Quarter on Feb 03, 2010.
On November 2nd, 2009, Sgt. Ramsey was off duty when she came across an accident between an SUV and a school bus. The doors were jammed shut so Sgt. Ramsey climbed into the SUV thru the passenger window and attended to the elderly driver who had become wedged in between the front seats. In the meantime, the SUV’s engine caught on fire and Sgt. Ramsey noticed the vehicle’s gas tank was leaking fuel. Sgt. Ramsey determined the situation mandated the removal of the gentleman from the vehicle. An off duty nurse had also stopped and together they began to remove the gentleman from the SUV when a deputy arrived with a fire extinguisher in hand. With the fire extinguished, Sgt. Ramsey remained in the vehicle with the victim while rescue personnel worked on opening up an exit way for them. Sgt. Ramsey attended to the driver until he was able to be removed from the vehicle and EMS took over his care. For her exemplary actions on we proudly name her as Corrections Deputy of the quarter.
Secretary II Myra J. Simmons, assigned to Special Operations Division, was awarded for Civilian of the Quarter on Feb 03, 2010.
Myra Simmons is a Crime Analyst assigned to the Missing Persons Unit of MCU. She has a keen interest in working older cases that have grown cold. One of those cases was the 1990 Verna Richardson missing person case. After twenty years Richardson was still listed as a missing person but investigators have always believed that her boyfriend murdered her, her body was never found. Myra created a dossier on the Richardson case, enlisted the help of detectives and as a result the boyfriend confessed to the crime.
