Deputy Involved In Shooting While Serving Warrant - Update #2

Update #2

Autopsy results show that the deceased, David Koch, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound...and that the one round fired by a Lee County deputy missed Koch.

A note was found inside Koch's residence indicating he intended to take his own life.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office continues a criminal investigation and an internal investigation to ensure department policies and procedures were followed.

The decedent is identified as David Koch, DOB 1-9-63.

On Thursday, July 29, 2010, at approximately 2:00 p.m., deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to 335 Beachwood Avenue, Lehigh Acres, in reference to the location of a wanted person. The subject was wanted for a misdemeanor warrant.

Deputies located the subject in the back yard of the home. The subject was armed and gunfire was exchanged. The subject died at the scene. The deputy was not injured.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office have responded to the scene. There are no further details at this time.
